"S.S. Kurdistan, British transport Cargo Steam Ship, built 1914, destroyed by torpedo, 20/9/1917, with no casualities, built by Short Bros. Ltd., Pallion, Sunderland, owned by Common Bros. Ltd. Hindustain S.S. Co. Ltd. Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The Kurdistan was sunk on a voyage from Blyth to Alexandria with a cargo of coal and coke by a German submarine U-32, 27 miles E Pontelleria Island," gouache and watercolour, 9 1/2" x 19" (24cms x 48cms).
