WW1 British War and Victory medal correctly impressed “Major C.H. MAY” along with a large silver Royal Humane Society medal engraved “Winchester College 1905” “Awarded for proficiency in swimming exercise with reference to saving life from drowning” engraved around the rim “Charles H. May” housed in a 1914 Princess Mary Gift box, along with a bronze Tank Corps collar badge, and a lump of shrapnel.
Charles May began his service in the Motor Machine Gun service of the Royal Artillery, before serving with the newly formed Tank Corps. He was awarded the Military Cross “Temp. Lt. Charles Henry May, M.G. Corps. ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to
duty. As section commander he accompanied one Tank into action and then transferred to another, till it reached its objective. On his Tank becoming unfit to proceed further he took charge of a party of infantry and directed consolidation of the position under heavy fire, thereby setting a fine example of gallantry and devotion to duty.”
Medals are all in very good condition. Tin is dented but no splits and hinge is good.
