William Webster, Exchange Alley, London, a walnut longcase clock the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement striking the hours on a bell with the twelve-inch brass break-arch dial having a raised chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, the matted centre with a subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture and applied silvered plaque engraved with the makers name Wm. Webster, London, with cast-brass female-head spandrels to the four-corners and blued-steel hands, the arch having a silvered Strike/Silent dial, the flat-top walnut case having satinwood and ebonised stringing to the trunk door and panel to the base, the hood with fluted pillars, standing on a double plinth, height 222cm. Note Fifth pillar movement has been removed. Note: William Webster, a former apprentice and journeyman for Thomas Tompion, is recorded at Exchange Alley as a Freeman of the Clockmakers Company from 1710 until his death in 1734 where he worked with his son, also William, who had been apprenticed to his father in 1727 becoming a Freeman of the Clockmakers Company in 1734 working until at least 1776.
