1988 ERROR - SPECTACULAR DESIGN SHIFT £1 CASTLE: £1 deep green SG 1410 in unmounted mint quarter sheet of 25 with major vertical and very slight diagonal shift of whole design. This results in a top row of five stamps missing the inscription entirely, with the sheet imprint appearing on one stamp, and the bottom row of five with the stamps missing value, queen's head and most of the design. Single sheet of 100 believed to have existed. Pierron lists F1211CSb (£225 each). A remarkable multiple. Lot also inc. two additional "errors", a 15p bright blue Machin defin. with streak of missing colour, giving the appearance of a large white 'horn' protruding from the Queen's forehead, and a vertical pair of the £1.50 Castle (1992) with a streak of gold (from Queen's head) extending across both stamps. (28) Cross Reference: ERRORS
