AN ART UNION OF LONDON MEDAL CELEBRATING CHRISTOPHER WREN. A silver Art Union of London Medal, obverse portrait bust r. beneath the bust 'Wilson S.C.' reverse facade of St Paul's Cathedral, the edge marked 'Art Union of London 1846', 58cm. In red leather case of issue with gilt Coat of arms to the top, hinge broken. Eimer 1411, BHM 2232. The silver examples of the Art Union Medals are much scarcer than the bronze, awarded to craftsmen and artists whose work the Art Union approved of, Eimer suggests as few as 30 of each medal in silver might have been produced *Condition: Case distressed with broken hings, medal with slight marks and very light surface scratches, a nice example.
