£120
A c.1880’s mother of pearl fan with very elaborate carving, the guards pierced then applied with portraits of an 18th century lady within an oval vignette, a tiny bird above and a birdcage below, the gorge carved and pierced with a large central spray of flowers, this backed, and fitted with a rope effect gold metal loop and diamanté to the rivet, mounted with a cream silk leaf embroidered with a lavish spray of sequins and spangles and bordered with similar, the verso plain, guard approx. 27.5cm
Quite a dry leaf, foxed. The verso has a backing layer applied to conserve, presumably, so splits on the silk recto. Two repairs to the upper guard.
