A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO TO A FATALITY ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SOMME, AN OFFICER IN THE ROYAL WARWICKSHIRE REGIMENT.
Comprising 1914-15 Star named to 2459 Private R Price R.War R. and War Medal and Victory Medal named to 2nd Lieut R. Price. Mounted for display. Reginald Price was the son of the Reverend Thomas Price and Anne Price, late of Claverdon Vicarage Warwickshire. He arrived in France on the 22nd March 1915, he received his commission on 24th September 1915, he was reported as missing on two occasions, first on the 13th June 1916 and then the 7th of July 1916. His date of death is recorded as the 1st of July 1916 at which time he was serving with the 1st 6th Battalion, he was 37 years old. He has no known grave as is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial. The 1st 6th Bn were part of 11th Brigade, on the first day of the Somme they attacked at Heidenkopt close to the Hawthorn Ridge mine which exploded at 7.20 that morning. The 1st 6th suffered 472 casualties that day.
