** AUXONNE & LONGWY - LETTER EX LONDON COVERING AN "ENCLOSED CERTIFICATE" [OF EXCHANGE]; 10 June 1811 EL from "London" to POW "Thomas Bownas" in "Auxonne" (on parole?) and then redirected to "Prisonnier de Guerre Anglais a Longwy" charged "36" (twice) and having a fair "DEB. 20/AUXONNE" on the flap. The sender, "M.A. Taylor" writes; "At your father's request, I have obtained the inclosed certificate, which, I hope, may further your return to this country". Presumably Bownas duly used the certificate (not present) and was exchanged for a French POW. Rare cover associated with both Auxonne and Longwy. Cross Reference: FRANCE, MILITARY - P.O.W. MAIL
