A selection of carnelian and aventurine quartz jewellery comprised of a long string of graduated carnelian beads interspersed with small faceted disks, another string of faceted pale carnelian beads, small red carnelian beads and paste beads, three carnelian pendants, two carnelian set rings a pair of carnelian stud earrings, a carnelian pebble necklace and a carnelian pendant, three aventurine quartz bead necklaces, two pairs of gold plate mounted aventurine quartz earrings, two aventurine quartz and grey agate bead necklaces, and a pair of matching drop earrings.

We are pleased to be offering this lot from the stock of family run firm Shipton and Co., who were based in Hastings White Rock area, and who were unfortunately forced to close their doors in 2014 after a section of the rock face above collapsed onto their shop, making the building unsafe.  Found the world over agate is a stone that has been used for jewellery and decorative purposes since ancient times.  Carnelian is a type of agate that is found in red and orange hues. The name is thought to come from the Latin words carnis (meat) or carne (flesh) due to its colour.  The ancient Egyptians prized it for being a stone of fertility to stimulating passion and even to provide courage to the ancient warriors and fighters.  In more modern times it has been worn to indicate status in society.  Aventurine quartz gets its name from the Italian word 'avventura' meaning by chance, risk or luck, it is most commonly green and has a platy minerals in it that give it a shimmering quality.  Aventurine is a stone that is thought to promote decisiveness and promote empathy and compassion, stimulating perception and enhancing creativity.
