Vincenti et Cie for Dent, a mid-Victorian French ormolu and porcelain mantle clock, the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel and stamped with the trademark of the maker Vincenti et Cie, the white enamel dial having blue Roman numerals set within an individual gilt cartouche, blued-steel trefoil hands and signed for the retailer Dent, Paris, the shaped ormolu case with floral, c-scroll and bird mounts and inset with painted porcelain panels, with glass dome and base, height 34cm including base. Notes: Vincenti started his workshops before 1823 in Montbeliard, France making the blancs roulants (rough movements) for clockmakers to finish and use, but went bankrupt a year later, whereupon the clock manufacturer Roux took on the management. Although Vincenti died in 1834, the business continued, winning a number of awards including the Medaille d'Argent (silver medal) in 1855.
