Star Lot : An enchanting vintage original oil on board painting by the esteemed Irish artist Moyra Barry (1886 - d.1960) featuring a bountiful flower arrangement on a dark background, which highlights the wonderful variety of tones, shades, brushstrokes and forms. Delicately achieved with fine strokes and a measured hand. Signed bottom right and housed in an ornate gilt frame. Barry has a very strong auction history with her works fetching into the early thousands.

Moyra Barry was one of the best known flower painters in Ireland in the early 20th century. After studying at the RHA school in Dublin and the Slade in London, she taught painting in England and South America, before returning to the family home in Rathmines, Dublin. She was a regular exhibitor with the RHA and ranked highly amongst Victor Waddington’s stable of artists, holding solo shows at Waddington’s on average every two years from 1936 to 1952. Her work can be seen in the NGI, the Ulster Museum and the Crawford Gallery among others.
