EDWARD JULIUS DETMOLD (1883-1857): "DARWIN'S DREAM"
48cm x 33cm
A pencil and pastel sketch depicting naturalist Charles Darwin sitting in a cane chair, surrounded by various skulls of beasts and a large globe and telescope. Darwin also appears to have a living child sitting on his knee.
Drawn by Detmold circa 1920's, after Darwin's death, it was perhaps a working sketch for a painting that appears to have never been completed.
Label to verso for Detmold's agent Oliver O'Donnell Frick, for 6 Margaretta Terrace in Chelsea.
This drawing is previously unknown and unrecorded.
