ANTIQUE INDIAN SILK SARI/SAREE - KATAN SILK, VARANASI. Probably late 19thc, a wonderful silk Katan Banarasi Sari/Saree, from the Varanasi region in North India. The Sari with horizontal panels of flowers at one end, the centre with floral motifs on a purple ground, and with narrow vertical borders of flowers on a pink ground. Approx 738cms long, 107cms wide
*By family repute, it was presented to the vendors Great Great Grandfather Major General De Bissiac Phelps.
By either Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar III (1799-1868) or Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV Maharaja of Mysore (1884 to 1940) as a gift to his wife. *CR Generally very good with strong colours, one small stain in the bottom left corner.
