A substantial iron key reputedly from Newgate Street Prison, Jersey 16.5cm. long. Newgate Street Prison opened in 1812 and was acutually on Gloucester Street in St Helier. It was referred to as Newgate Street Prison after the famous gaol in London. It continued in use as a prison through the German Occupation and until the new prison at La Moye was opened in 1975 upon which the old prison was demolished.
