GLOBE INK. 3ins tall. Aqua glass, usually described as an ink bottle but remains open to question. Guy Burch has recorded at least one example of this bottle with a lamp burner fitted and others are reported removed by diggers. It has affinities with target balls and the globular Universal Lamp by M. Davis & Co, Chandos Glass Works. Chandos and other makers of disputed figurals often left room for doubt in registrations: stating lamp but caveated and other like liquids. The base mark K/L/M/80 remains unidentified but might well settle the question incontrovertibly? Several ink makers used globe trademarks but so did many other companies including The Globe Lamp Works in London. Still a very rare figural in either case. Usual sheared lip nibbling. Very good.
