A rare Chinese underglaze blue and copper red 'dragon' vase, tianqiuping, 18th century, painted with a ferocious scaly dragon chasing a flaming pearl, on an incised wave ground, the eyes of the dragon picked out in underglaze blue, the neck with keywork and cellular banded decoration, underglaze blue double circle around the edge of the foot, 38cm high, firing faults, hairline cracks

The vase has an over-glazed firing crack extending around the join of the neck to the body, there is a slight lean to the neck of the vase as viewed from several directions. The glaze has some black speckling to the surface in the firing, particularly noticeable around the neck and around the base. There are a few burnt orange biscuit unglazed patches to the flames on one side. There are hairline star cracks to the base and two hairline cracks to the neck. No restoration or chips detected.
