H.R.H. Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood (1897-1965, only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary) - Various letters from the 1940s addressed to her son Gerald Lascelles: one dated November 27th 1941 on Windsor Castle headed paper, including 'Uncle Bertie and Aunt Elizabeth [King George VI and the Queen Mother] have invited you to luncheon Sunday at 1.15. They hope you can come to tea Saturday at 4.30 and stay for a cinema at 5 and can send you back afterwards'; another dated June 6th 1940 includes 'Personally I do not favour a saxophone as it is not exactly a ""melodious"" instrument and as you naturally wish to bring it home to practice I don't know where you coul do this without distrubing everybody! I am willing to help you to buy an instrument and though £8 may be a bargain for a saxophone I do NOT approve of this instrument'; and several other letters. (Approx 35)
