André Col founded his own company in 1936 on Avenue Victor Hugo in Paris. Heir to a family of jewellers, he soon made a name for himself through the creativity and superb workmanship of his jewellery, as well as his special orders, crafted by the foremost Parisian workshops also working for the Place Vendôme, such as Pierre Brun, who created the present necklace. In the 1960s, when Maison Christian Dior sought to put its first watch on the market, Col was chosen for the work. One of the celebrity jewellers of the 1960s Col's stylish clientele included such icons as Brigitte Bardot, Maria Callas, Ingrid Bergman and Gary Cooper.
