The work shows losses and scuffs to the painted surface, particularly to the dark background areas to the left and right of the figure, but with further small losses visible in the hair. The paint surface shows fine craquelure throughout. Examination under UV reveals evidence of later varnishing, probably carried out when the canvas was laid on to board.
