Charles III: a hand-signed letter, written to Robert Marrington thanking him for his condolence letter, written after the death of Major Hugh Lindsay, killed by an avalanche at Klosters in 1988. Charles and Diana had been on a skiing holiday, with Major Lindsay, with Charles himself also being on the slopes at the time. The letter, on Kensington Palace headed notepaper and dated 28th March 1988, has a written 'Dear Mr Marrington' over typed font, to include the line 'I still find it hard to understand why I survived and he didn't, but that, I suppose, it's part of the unfathomable mystery of our existence... ', and signed in fountain pen 'Yours Sincerely, Charles'. In a presentation framed mount flanked by two colour photographs, one of Charles skiing and another of him in Highland dress.
