A good George III mahogany and ormolu bracket clock with alarm by Eardley Norton of London, no.1806, the double fusee movement with five knopped pilars, verge escapement, bob pendulum, foliate and urn engraved backplate and mounting brackets, pull repeat for strike and alarm, striking the hours on a bell, fronted by an arched brass dial with strike/silent dial to arch, silvered Roman chapter ring with Arabic outer minutes, matted centre with silvered alarm dial, chamfered date aperture and blued steel hands, gilt foliate scroll spandrels, the bell top case surmounted by five cone finials, with glazed side panels and canted front corners with gilt floral mounts, pierced gilt brass foliate spandrels to the arch, on a moulded plinth base with ogee brass feet, 19 ¾in. (50cm.) high. * Runs, strikes and repeats. Movement would appear original to case. Section wooden seatboard has been cut away, possibly due to use of a longer, non-original pendulum at some point. Later brass winding key and door keys present. Locks function correctly. Dial VG, with spot of disolouration to edge of matted centre at 7 o'clock. Fading to polish throughout case and more notably to back. Old marks, dings and scratches in accordance with age. A few old worm holes visible to oak carcass of rear door, with three showing through the mahogany veneer to exterior. This is old and inactive.
