A nameplate BARRY CASTLE from a (GWR) 4073 Castle Class 4-6-0 No 7012 built at Swindon in June 1948 and named after the castle near the town of that name. It spent most of its working life at Landore, moving towards the end to Carmarthen, Old Oak Common, Stafford Road and Oxley from where it was withdrawn in November 1964 and sold for scrap to Cashmores at Great Bridge. After withdrawal this nameplate was acquired by Dai Woodham, the owner of the famous scrapyard, who requested Swindon Works to remove the splasher below the beading. After he sold the plate the then owner had a new splasher made and fitted to the nameplate which is barely noticeable from the front. Note: The proceeds of sale of the nameplate will be donated to the fund set up to maintain the preserved steamship SS Shieldhall which operates from Southampton. (Postage Band: N/A)
