South Africa: Cape Commercial Bank, £12 share, Cape Town [1854], #593, ornate border, attractive black print. Formed in 1854. Expanded into the Transvaal in 1873 during the first mining boom. Caught up in the property boom of the early 80's which crashed in 1883 following a smallpox epidemic. There were over 1600 insolvencies in 1883/4 and sadly this bank was one of them. Near EF and scarce.
