Original antique advertising poster for the French circus - Cirque Ancillotti Plege - featuring a dynamic design depicting a lion tamer wearing an explorer's outfit bravely opening a lion's mouth and putting his head inside between the teeth of the lion with the stylised title text above and information below within the decorative border. One of the most renowned French circuses at the turn of the century, the Plege circus was founded in 1859 by Antoine Plège (1831-1898); his widow Josephine and children took over the circus and their daughter Lucie, who married the famous cycling acrobat Ugo Ancillotti, founded the Cirque Ancillotti-Plège 1908 as a circus music hall variety performance programme.
