A FINE RUSSIAN 1881/1908 PATTERN DRAGOON OFFICER'S SHASKA WITH DAMASCENE BLADE AND SCABBARD. With a 77.5cm slightly curved, pointed, single edged blade with triple fuller and damascene type surface between the fullers, the edge sharpened for use. Decorated with a large Nicholas II monogram to one side and a large Imperial Russian Crown above a makers mark. With a confirming Nicholas II monogram to the top of the grip, the ebonised grip with decorated guard and circular forward facing quillon, the pommel with floral decoration. In a brown leather covered wooden scabbard with brass fittings and single ring suspension. 92cm overall. See 'Russian Sidearms, Polearms and Bayonets by A.N. Kulinsky, 2001, p156 no 58 for similar examples *Condition: Slight chip to top of grip, slight rubbing to surfaces and mounts on scabbard, otherwise a very fine example, the interesting blade slightly more curved than standard examples of this pattern.
