20th Middlesex (Artists) Rifle Volunteers helmet plate badge 1880-1908. Good scarce die-stamped blackened brass crowned MR cypher, superimposed with 20, on ARTISTS surmounting Maltese cross with applied oval centre depicting conjoined heads of Mars and Minerva within CUM MARTE MINERVA motto. Three loops VGC Designed by J.W. Wyon. Unit raised as 38th Middlesex RV, renumbered 20th in 1880. 1908 28th County of London (Artists Rifles). 1947 became 21 Special Air Service (Artists).
