1896 DONGOLA CAMPAIGN: 7 Aug. 1896 stampless Officer's cover addressed to Lord Amherst of Hackney, London (redirected to Filey) endorsed "On active service. No stamps available" and signed J.F. Burn-Murdoch, Miralai (Brigadier), Comm. Egyptian Cavalry, Sarras, 7.8.96". Env. cancelled by "WADI-HALFA/CAMP" c.d.s. (10 Aug. 1896) and has 26 Aug. 96 London Duplex plus boxed "T" and h/s "2½d/F.B." charge marks. Backstamped London & York. Interesting contents inc the words "..we had a somewhat bad go of cholera which cost me a lot of good men.". Very fine.
