SEALED CYLINDER WINE BOTTLE. 11ins tall. Deep olive green/ black glass, rounded shoulders, double collar lip, base kick up, rough pontil. Middle of body applied seal featuring an earls coronet, greyhound head below - all well struck & crude. Body full of seed bubbles. A really delightful example of its type - superb.
AMENDED: Miles Wynn Cato believes thecreature in the crest is a bear rather than a greyhound, although Burton says greyhound.
The crest is that of Edward Lascelles who was raised to an earldom (of Harewood) in 1812. I suspect that the bottles were ordered at that time, perhaps to celebrate his elevation?
