A LARGE IRISH GEORGE I SILVER STRAWBERRY DISH, Dublin 1715, maker's mark of Henry Daniell, with 24 lobes, having original armorials (c.14.9 troy ozs). 23.5cm diameter Henry Daniell was born to Richard Daniell, a clothier of the Coombe in the late 17th century. He was apprenticed to work most noticeably under Master silversmith Thomas Bolton (1758-1736), who was likely the most prominent silversmith in Ireland in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, serving as both assay master and later Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1716. The particular heraldic crest represented is a variation of the Allen family crest with motto VIRTEN.AURO.PRE.FERENDA (Virtus Auro Praeferenda)
