Property of a gentleman - a 19th century Chinese embroidered silk shawl in original lacquer box with painted pictorial inner box, the shawl never used & still folded over its protective paper as new, the box with original label inscribed 'SUN SHING / DEALER IN SILKS......./ NO.90 QUEEN'S ROAD CENTRAL / HONG KONG', the box 18.5ins. (47cms.) square (see illustration). Provenance - private UK collection, inherited from family who worked in the tea industry and banking in the Far East, including Shanghai, Foochow, Amoy, Formosa and Singapore, from the 1860's to the 1930's.
