£170
A Queen Anne oval tortoiseshell snuff box, the domed cover and base press moulded with radiating stop flutes, the silver coloured metal hinge and thumb piece engraved with flowers and a styalised bird, 9cm wide, c.1710
The domed cover with later oval engraved cartouche. Several areas of minor chipping to the rim. The base with old repair where the clasp attaches to the box, the original tortoiseshell has broken away and has been replaced with bands of silver coloured metal. The base has been broken into two pieces and a 19thC repair has taken place with four riveted bands keeping the two pieces together.
Tired overall but remains a rather nice and tactile object that closes well and although repaired, the generally recently untouched nature adds to its charm.
