R Ackermann - 6 cock fighting engravings 1853.

This is a complete set of aquatint engravings from Newton Fielding published in 1853 by R. Ackermann at his Sporting Gallery located at 191 Regent Street.

Each one was created on woven paper. Plate 1: Set Too - When Cock Meets Cock, Then Comes the Tug of War Plate 2: Fight Each tugging to be the victor, breast to breast. Yet neither conqueror nor conquered. Plate 3: Throat - O mighty Caesar, dost thou lie so low Plate 4: Knock Down - Lo now my Glory, smeared in dust & blood. Plate 5: Recovery - And each keen sinew braced, the storm of war ruffling o'er his nervous body frowns. Plate 6: Death ? Dead...for my life.... Even so;.... My tale is told.

Each plate measures 8in x 6in on woven paper and mounted ready for framing.
