A smokebox numberplate, 31860, from a South Eastern & Chatham Railway N Class 2-6-0 No 860 assembled at Ashford in April 1925 from a complete set of parts made at Woolwich Arsenal except for the boiler, supplied by the North British Locomotive Co. It was renumbered A860 and SR 1860, becoming BR 31860. It spent most of its early BR days at Hither Green before moving in 1959 to Exmouth Junction from where it was withdrawn in November 1963 and cut up at Eastleigh Works. Repainted, the BR(S) A triangle cast in the back. (Postage Band: D)
