The R129 model was built between 1989 and 2001. The base model is the 190 hp 3.0 L inline 6 300SL with 12 valves. The 228 hp 3.0 L inline 6 with 24 valves is known as the 300SL 24 . But it was the 322 hp 500SL , with a 5.0 L V8 engine, which made the most headlines. The specification was high, with electric windows, mirrors, seats and roof. The R129 model was the first convertible/roadster to offer the automatic roll bar deployment in event of rollover. The motorist can also manually raise and lower the roll bar should he choose to. This facilitates the clean look of R129 without compromising the occupant's safety.
This is an R129 SL 500 Sports Convertible with removable hardtop. Rare factory ordered interior with every luxury on offer in 1991, including heated and electrically adjustable seats and climate control. The vendor states that the car has VOSA MOT history back to 2009 and has recently undergone extensive mechanical work at Mercedes specialist Colin Ferns Limited, including Mercedes parts new coils, distributor arms and caps (an expensive necessity to make these cars run as they should) and replacement of all idle hoses totalling £1400 (invoice available). The car has recently been driven on a round trip to Nottingham and performed well, pulling like a train after the recent work carried out. The car was bought recently for the vendor's wife who mistakenly believed the answer "anything" in response to the question "what would you like for your birthday?" actually meant just that and is now sadly for sale!
