Bert Braam, born in 1938 in Beek near Nijmegen. He attended the Academy of Visual Arts in Arnhem.
In Braam's work we see abstract expressionism, his brush formation is strong and agile, the compositions are strongly monumental.
Bert Braam's paintings arise from emotions that relate to the contact between him and the things around him. Nature with all its forms and people with their appearance influence his perception of the world. His work is lyrically abstract, erotically organic. Translating his emotions into forms is a continuous process of mixing, reworking forms, fighting with matter. Braam applies his paint layer upon layer, scrapes away some, adds some more, scratches into the paint and then puts a thin layer over it again so that a beautiful skin is created.
Color plays an important role for Bert Braam. During his travels to the Orient, but also to Morocco, Tunisia, Israel and Oceania, he was particularly fascinated by the earthy colors of those countries. He captured the terracotta, the beautiful red, the warm yellow in various works.
Braam has exhibited both solo and in groups and his work is represented in many collections of companies, institutions and individuals.
