*In 1983 during testing times for the Gibson guitar company, the idea of a limited run of Les Paul's 'Spotlight Special' came to production. According to Gibson records, the Spotlight Special serial numbers ran to a total of 211, making this a very limited run. Despite the presence of the Custom Shop logo to the back of the headstock, the Spotlight Special was in fact made in the Nashville plant rather than the Custom Shop itself. Whilst initial consumer interest was not strong, this guitar would later feature in the 1993 release of Tony Bacon and Paul Day's 'The Gibson Les Paul Book', raising the profile of the model as collectors suddenly realised how rare and limited this model in fact was.
