1978 Kawasaki Z650, 652 cc. Registration number FCA 64S. Frame number KX650B038303. Engine number KZ650BE79202.
The Kawasaki Z650 was made by Kawasaki from 1976 until 1983. It featured a four-cylinder four-stroke DOHC air-cooled wet sump engine with two valves per cylinder and a five-speed gearbox. Designed as a middleweight sibling to the Kawasaki Z1, it competed in the market against the smaller SOHC Honda CB650. It was truly the 'Son of Z1' as both the Z1/900 and the Z650 were designed by Gyoichi "Ben" Inamura in the mid seventy's.
Important in the design of this bike was that it had to the agility of a 500 with the performance of a 750 and have the capability to drive long distances without the rider getting too tired. During its lifetime the Z650 gained a reputation as a good and reliable around bike. Offered in candy super red or candy emerald green the 1976/77 Z650's are referred to as B1's which were replaced by the B2's with frame number KZ650B-027501. The next version was the C, the most noticeable difference being the seven spoke alloy wheels with twin disks up front and a disk at the rear.
This machine was imported from the USA in November 1993 and had five UK owners before our vendor, the last two being Darren Stubbs of Frodsham (1998 - 2014) and Paul Williamson of Beverley until 2017.
Sold with the V5C, various MOT's from 1993 (mileage of 23,626) until 2014 (29,024), it is now 29,526; it is currently on SORN and the only non standard part would appear to be the four into one exhaust system instead of the original four into two.
