As assortment of postcards, old greetings cards and ephemera – with World War One interest. This lot has been passed down through a family and some of it relates to a David Melhuish, who was born and raised in Portsmouth. His wife Triphena originated from the Rumney Valley area of South Wales. David enlisted in the Royal Engineers early in WW1, survived the fighting and became a master bricklayer after the war and was involved in the two chimneys at the former Power Station in Old Portsmouth. Photo 1 shows all the items in this lot; and photo 1 & 2 includes a torn bit of paper saying how Sapper 62719 was admitted to a Canadian hospital in France on 28/08/1918, there’s also a Royal Engineers silk postcard with an insert message to his wife, a clipped postcard image of David and Triphena, and two other silks – one with Middlesex Regiment interest. There’s also a Field Service PC dated July 1917 saying David was admitted to hospital after being gassed. Photos 3 & 5 show military and family photos, including one of David. Image 5 shows various In Sympathy cards – one on the death of King George V, but the others are of relatives from South Wales, including two with photos - a Private Thomas Hind, of Pontlottyn, who died on 11/07/1916 in Cardiff, aged 46; and W.T. Evans (22), who died from wounds in France on 29/0518 – and may be the ‘Will’ who signed the four Field Service cards also in this photo which were sent to a Mrs D. Mulhuish in Pontlottyn. The final photo shows 17 greetings cards, 8 comic postcards and approximately 30 Christmas cards which are not PCs. The postcards, phones and ephemera are in a very mixed condition from good plus to poor.
