An Italian, pietra dura topped walnut circular occasional table, probably Rome, late 19th century; the central tondo with a depiction of figures in a cart drawn by a donkey on a ground of Tuscan alabaster; within concentric borders, bands and geometric motifs of sample hardstones including marmo rosso Levanto, Italian green serpentine, marmo Siena, marmo rosso antico and malachite, all in a black stone ground; with ovolo moulded edge; the veneered base with four ring and knop turned legs with ceramic stretchers, united by cruciform stretchers with an urn finial; 77cm high, 68cm diameter Provenance: Gifted to the great grandparents of the vendor in Sicily, in the late 19th century.
