A Louis XV 18th century ormolu-mounted, brass-inlaid, tortoiseshell and boulle marquetry bracket mantel clock stamped Targe A Paris with ogee bracket. The clock having a gilt metal figure or Urania, goddess of astrology, atop over a canted pediment. Waisted case below embellished with ormolu scrolled acanthus leaves to sides. Central blue & white enamelled circular clock face with Roman numerals to chapter ring enclosed in gilt metal cartouche. Enamelled plaque below signed Targe A Paris. All behind a glazed front flanked by a curved case with further acanthus leaves embellishments and inlays. Checked Trompe-l'œil floor to inside with matching boulle decoration to inside of back door. The front enriched by a gilt metal in relief of possibly Ades with galloping horses. Raised on ormolu foliate supports. The back door opening to reveal a brass movement with twin barrel, outside count-wheel bell striking movement with verge escapement regulated by a pendulum stamped Targe A Paris. The clock all raised on matching ogee clock wall bracket gilt metal ormolu embellishments to corners in the shape of possibly Zephyrus and scrolled acanthus leaf to bottom. With pendulum and key.
