A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO TO A CASUALTY WITH THE 5TH BATTALION OF THE DORSET REGIMENT. A Great War Trio comprising 1914-15 Star named to 11094 Pte W.J. Toomer Dorset R. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named. William John Toomer was born near Shaftesbury and lived at Fontmell Magna, he rose to the rank of Lance Corporal but was killed in action on the 26th September 1916 whilst serving with the 5th Battalion. He was previously wounded on the 27th September 1915 whilst serving in the Mediterranean with the same Battalion. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. With lid of original delivery box.
