A Christmas card sent by Flight Lieutenant Leslie Broderick of 106 Squadron and his wife Jenny.
After completing 18 bombing missions on Lancasters, he was eventually forced to crash land in France when returning from a raid on Stuttgart and was captured by the Germans. Broderick was involved in 'The Great Escape' at Stalag Luft III and was known as the 'Tunnel Dicks Trapfuhrer' on the tunnel 'Dick', one of three planned tunnels to be used for escape.
Broderick was one of those officers who was part of the escape in March 1944, but was unfortunately recaptured. He luckily was one of the 23 who were returned to the camp and avoided the mass murder by the Gestapo on the orders of Adolf Hitler.
