A FIRST WORLD WAR TRIO AND MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO A CASUALTY AT THE BATTLE OF LOOS. A Great War Trio comprising a 1914-15 Star named to 11498 L.Cpl. W.Bird WILTS R. War Medal and Victory Medal named to Bird as Acting Cpl. The Memorial plaque named William Bird. William Bird, the son of Henry and Margaret Louisa Bird of 159 Lord Street, Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire. He served as an Acting Corporal with the 6th (TF) Battalion of Duke of Edinburgh's Wiltshire Regiment, entering France on the 19th July 1915. He was killed in action on the 25th September 1915, he was 21 years old, and is commemorated at the Loos Memorial with over 20,000 of his comrades. The Battle of Loos began on the day William Bird died and it seems likely that he played his part in the first day of this battle which ended on October 8th. *CR Small holes drilled in the plaque and three and nine o'clock. Possibly original ribbons. A lot fee of £8 inc. VAT will be charged on top of the hammer price and BP on all lots.
