422 SQUADRSON APPROVAL OF CREST SIGNED BY GEORGE VI.
A painted and gilt Royal Canadian Air Force Crest, 422 Squadron, with legend 'This arm shall do it', the crest suggests that a Red Indian brave is at war, the Shakespearian motto refers to the squadrons strikr power. Top left signed 'approved George R.I.' beneath the crest 'College of Arms, October 1943. and Chester Herald and Inspector of Royal Canadian Air Force badges, framed and glazed, with an engraved tablet 'Presented to 16 SQN RAF by 422 (F) Sqn RCAF'. 38.5cm x 28cm. With an RAF Mess Jacket with rank for Squadron Leader by Moss Bross. 422 RCAF was formed as a General Reconnaissance unit at Lough Erne, Fermanagh, Northern Ireland on 2nd Aapril 1942, flying Catalina and Sunderland flying boats on convoy escort and anti-submarine patrols over the North Atlantic shipping route and the Bay of Biscay. The squadron was disbanded on 3rd September 1945.
