A large iron explosive cannon ball, bearing traces of painted armorial shield and inscribed "Bomarsund" (indistinct), with wooden plug and length of cord fuze, approximately 4½" diameter, on a wooden display stand. GC. The Battle of Bomarsund was a naval bombardment of a shore fort during the Crimean War in August 1854. The first ever Victoria Cross was awarded for this action to a seaman (Lucas) on board HMS Heccla. £100-120
