A FINE AND EXTREMELY RARE ENGLISH HENRY VIII OAK PARCHEMIN-CARVED COFFER. CIRCA 1530. The hinged lid with four quadrant panels, the front with four upright panels, each finely carved with enriched-parchemin, with leafy-trefoils, leafy-quatrefoils, and fivepetal flowerheads, one panel of slightly different design, the central muntin below the iron lockplate carved with a lattice band of fleur-de-lys and leafy-trefoils, each side with paired linenfold-carved panels, very good rich untouched surface/colour, 127cm wide, 49.5cm deep, 74.5cm high Provenance - Purchased 1970s Note - for a similar coffer, formerly in the collection of Sir William & Lady Burrell Pre 1944 see the Burrell Collection, Glasgow item No 14.365.
