KENT - EARLY LETTER FROM "DOVER" TO ANTWERP WITH "1 Sch" POSTAL RATE; "26/7 Febry. 1647/48" EL (small ink-etched hole affects very foot of address-panel, otherwise fine) from "Dover" to "Anvers" (Antwerp" with a "1 Sch" postal rate (Thurn & Taxis Post?) on the front, having a mostly complete fine red wax armorial seal on the reverse. Rare cross-Channel letter from the English Civil War period; on 17 January Parliament had broken off negotiations with the imprisoned King Charles I, and barely 10 days after this letter was sent the "Second Civil War" started with Pembroke Castle being taken by Royalist forces.Cross Reference: KENT, EARLY LETTERS, BELGIUM
