R.M.S. TITANIC:

R.M.S. TITANIC: Unique onboard postcard being the only known example bearing the 'Cork 3.45pm. April 11-1912' postmark. The card is written by First-Class passenger Richard William Smith to an address in New Market Road, Norwich 'Have had a fine run around to Queenstown. Just leaving for the land of stars and stripes', etc. Written in pencil and signed with monogram R.W.S. Mr Smith was travelling in the company of Mrs Nicholls, a family friend. Father Browne's Titanic album, page 65, shows a couple who are believed to be Richard Smith and Emily Nicholls on deck together. Father Browne wrote to Richard May, who also disembarked the ship at Queenstown, regarding this photograph and Mr May replied 'The lady was a Mrs N who disembarked at Queenstown and a gentleman whose name I never knew, who continued with his journey'. It is presumed that it was she who posted the card in Cork on going ashore. Provenance Kenneth C. Schultz collection.
