Bernie Marsden - mid 1930s Gibson Series acoustic guitar, made in USA; Back and sides: mahogany, checking, dings and scrapes throughout; Top: natural sunburst, heavy checking, minor belly lift to lower bout, various dings, hairline to treble side upper bout, pick wear to treble side of sound hole; Neck: mahogany, wear throughout, ding behind third fret position; Fretboard: rosewood, heavy groove wear to first position; Frets: worn; Hardware: replacement bridge pins, tuner buttons probably replacements; Overall condition: fair

*Purchased by Bernie for finger-style use being a keen blues man and fan of Robert Johnson. This guitar appears on page 281 of Bernie's book 'Tales of Tone and Volume', where it is incorrectly listed as an LG-2, a model that was not introduced until the 1940s

More Information

There is a number on the neck block 4472 followed by what could be a 6, G or C. In our opinion the font is odd for a FON of this period and we have dated the guitar on spec. (Scalloped bracing/ double bound etc). However if this is indeed a FON, the guitar could date to later 1930s and technically have the L-00 model designation.
