A unique and unusual 18/19th Century Caquetoire Chair.
Derived from 'caqueter', a French term meaning to chat, this conversation chair, was an armchair style which emerged during the European Renaissance in France. This wonderful example is unusual due to the leather embossed decorated back panel and leather seat, which whilst in a well-worn state, it still clings on to life and shows a glimpse of it's original design & quality. Intriguingly, XVIII is inscribed under each arm of the chair. See photos for full details of condition and the wonderful design.
Stands 134cm tall x 60.5cm wide x 44cm deep.
